Please read the following policies carefully. They are designed to clarify the nature of our professional relationship, protect your rights as a client, and ensure the smooth operation of this practice. By engaging in services, you agree to the terms outlined below.
Late cancellations, no-shows & exceptions
Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. To respect both your time and that of other clients, the following notice requirement applies:
- A minimum of 24 hours’ advance notice is required to cancel or reschedule a scheduled appointment.
- Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be considered a “late cancellation.”
- Failure to attend a scheduled appointment without any notice constitutes a “no-show.”
Fees. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged a flat late cancellation fee of $50. This fee is typically not reimbursable by insurance, as insurance does not cover missed appointments.
Exceptions. Exceptions may be made at the therapist’s discretion for documented emergencies, sudden illness, or circumstances beyond the client’s reasonable control. Additionally, missed appointments, late cancellations, and no-show occurrences do not constitute covered services under MassHealth. Because no healthcare service is furnished during a missed appointment, providers may not bill MassHealth for the missed session and correspondingly may not charge the MassHealth member directly for the absence. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may affect the continuation of services and could result in the loss of your reserved appointment time.
Clinical treatment only
I do not provide court reports, opinions, letters, testimony, or custody-related evaluations of any kind. By signing this agreement, you agree not to subpoena your therapist or request court-related testimony. If a conflict arises between my clinical role and a requested forensic task, I may withdraw from treatment with appropriate referrals.
Social media & review sites
To protect the therapeutic relationship and maintain appropriate professional boundaries, your therapist will not accept friend requests, follow requests, or connection invitations from current or former clients on any personal social media platform (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X/Twitter). This policy exists to protect your privacy and to preserve the integrity of the therapeutic relationship. If this practice now or ever maintains a professional page or website, you are welcome to view public information. Engaging with practice content (e.g., commenting, sharing) is at your discretion, but please be aware of the privacy implications.
Review Sites. You are under no obligation to review this practice online. If you choose to do so, please be mindful of your own privacy, as identifying details in a review could inadvertently disclose that you are a client.
Electronic communication
Electronic communication with your therapist is not a confidential or secure form of communication. Please limit email contact to administrative matters such as scheduling, billing questions, or general inquiries. Do not send sensitive clinical information, crisis disclosures, or emotionally urgent content via email. Your therapist will make reasonable efforts to respond to emails within 1–2 business days. Email is not appropriate for urgent concerns. Text Messaging (SMS) may be used for scheduling-related communications only (e.g., appointment reminders or confirmations), unless otherwise agreed upon.
No emergency services
This practice does not offer crisis intervention, emergency support, on-call availability, after-hours urgent care, emergency psychiatric evaluations, or immediate responses to urgent or life-threatening situations outside of scheduled appointments. It is essential for clients to maintain a safety plan and be familiar with the appropriate resources to contact in the event of a mental health emergency.
In the event of a crisis or emergency, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or call/text 988. If you are unsure whether a situation constitutes an emergency, please err on the side of caution and contact one of the above resources. Your safety is the priority. This practice will work with you during scheduled sessions to develop and regularly review a personalized safety plan.
Termination of services
Termination refers to the planned or unplanned ending of the therapeutic relationship. You have the right to discontinue therapy at any time, for any reason. If you choose to end services, you are encouraged to attend a final session to allow for a planned and thoughtful conclusion to treatment, though this is not required. Please inform your therapist of your decision to terminate so that referrals or resources can be offered as appropriate.
Your therapist may also initiate termination under the following circumstances:
- The therapeutic relationship is no longer clinically appropriate or beneficial, and continued services would not serve your well-being.
- You have achieved your treatment goals and no longer require services.
- You have not made payment as agreed, following reasonable notice and opportunity to resolve the balance.
- There is a conflict of interest or boundary concern that cannot be ethically resolved.
- Your therapist is closing the practice, relocating, or experiencing circumstances that prevent continuation of care.
- Your needs fall outside the scope of your therapist’s competence, and a referral to a more appropriate provider is clinically indicated.
In all cases of therapist-initiated termination, except where continued contact poses a risk to the therapist, reasonable notice will be provided. Your therapist will make good-faith efforts to facilitate a smooth transition to another provider, including offering referrals and, with your consent, coordinating care with an incoming provider. Termination will never be used as a punitive measure and will not be initiated arbitrarily or capriciously.
Inactive cases
If you miss 4 consecutive appointments without communication, or if there has been no contact for two months, your case may be considered inactive, and services may be administratively closed. A written notice will be sent to your last known contact information prior to administrative closure. You are always welcome to return to services in the future, subject to therapist availability.
